This post thanks to Reine Boyer: On Friday, February 12, 2010, Sacred Heart University sponsored the "all nighter - Have a Heart for Haiti" fundraising event to benefit the victims and survivors of Haiti's earthquake. The event was well attended by both Sacred Heart students, Haitian Americans from Fairfield County and the greater Sacred Heart community. UHAS as well as Louis Elneus' foundation, Haiti Lumiere de Demain participated in this worthy cause. UHAS Executive Director, Gerry Azor made a presentation on UHAS' efforts in Haiti, including its medical personnel program and partnership with Old St. Andrew's École le Bon Samaritain as well as the recent trip to the Dominican Republic by some UHAS members to visit earthquake victims currently receiving treatment at a Dominican hospital. Also present was Dr. Jean Claude Desrosiers who shared his experience while volunteering in Haiti as a physician. His presentation was very moving, capturing the imagination of many present on the devastation and loss many have suffered from the earthquake. Following Dr. Desrosiers' and UHAS' presentations, many Sacred Heart and other area college students signed up to volunteer with UHAS in Haiti as medical and essential personnel.
In addition, UHAS Youth Committee Chairwoman, Marlene Isaac sold several student artist postcards from the St. Ann School/Diocesan "Stars of Hope for Haiti" project. All proceeds raised will go to benefit the victims and survivors of the earthquake.
The attendees feasted on Haitian cuisine, prepared by Chef Pierre of Metric Grill located in downtownBridgeport and danced the night away to the electrifying sounds of the DJ and local Haitian band, D-Tay, featuring singing sensation, Jean "T-Chelbe." Finally, at the wee hours of the morning, 7:00 am to be precise, students began to make their way back to their dorm rooms from this "allnighter" event.
Great job Natasha Noel, Dawn Doucette and Sacred Heart student volunteers. This event was spectacular!
