Sunday morning

A quick blog entry between services. Carolyn Lang called last night and we talked from 11 to mid-night. I learned a lot about the daily activities in and around the Clinic. Her thoughts combined with those of the volunteers with whom I spoke yesterday are bringing the picture of how we move forward into better focus.

Perhaps the most interesting piece of news is that President René Garcia Preval has declared that Haitian schools will reopen on March 31st. This, of course, presents a challenge to us because École le Bon Samaritain is so badly damaged. The President said, however, that schools should do all they can even if it means having classrooms in the streets or under awnings. We will certainly investigate the possibility of holding classes in the Guest House.

As you can see, our focus is shifting. The food distribution has been given over to those who can best handle that massive undertaking, the medical clinic is dealing with fewer emergencies and more "ordinary" illness and health issues, and we're talking about recovering our children and holding classes. This is all good.
