Stamford Hospital Press Conference w/ Fujifilm
Nurse Ann Giuli arrived back to work at Stamford Hospital yesterday only to learn she was to join Dr. David Reed at a 10.30 a.m. Press Conference. You see, Fujifilm of Stamford had partnered with Stamford Hospital to donate a $200,000 portable X-ray machine for the hospital in Carrefour.
Dr. Reed, following his time with us at our Clinic on Team 1, told the Stamford Advocate, "To properly care for the tens of thousands that are injured, the needs are now beyond providing just the food and medical supplies. We absolutley need X-ray imaging to provide care in the next phase of the disaster." Fujifilm also provided training for an X-ray technician who will train Haitian technicians to use the machine.
Ann says that those attending included Congressman Jim Himes, Mayor Pavia, Americares, Brian Grissler CEO Stamford Hospital, and Pam Koprowski, a Stamford Hospital executive and our Medical Coordinator. "I had a wonderful surprise when I saw Mona and Daneli there. To have an opportunity to see them again was the best part of the event."
Ann (on the left in this picture of her and volunteers Karen Joseph, Dr. Patty Jorquera & Lauren Lyons) briefly spoke to reporters and said, "Last Sunday after church, each member of our team was given the opportunity to speak to the congregation. My message to them was that the press had certainly covered the devastation following the great tragedy, but there was something that the media had not been able to fully capture. That is the strength and the resilience of the Haitian people. For two weeks, I had the great privilege of meeting hundreds of people who attended our clinic. I continuously witnessed examples of strength and patience and gratitude. I will forever be amazed that anyone was able to smile, after all the suffering they had experienced. This is truly the best example of resilience. I promised that I would share the message that they are incredibly strong and anxious to return to work. We will continue to do all we can here to provide assistance."
