I am constantly amazed at how things, people, places get connected. One example is that Dr. David's Reed's aunt was my mother's best friend and roommate at Miss Porter's School in Farmington in the 1930s. Here's one from Pam Koprowski, the Medical Coordinator for the Good Samaritan Rebuilding Fund, extracted from an email she sent to Richard Feldman and me.
"Hi Richard, it was so wonderful to meet you today; I really feel as though the spirits are working overtime connecting all of us together.
"Here's the story: I pulled into St. John's garage at 5 p.m. hoping just to drop off baseball caps for Team #4. When I got to the drop off area I saw a man with lots of duffle bags and heart-shaped messages written by children. Of course I introduced myself and we talked. He is Richard Feldman, Library Teacher of Community School 211, and had made his first ever trip to Stamford to drop of supplies collected in the good old BRONX.......by children at his public school. The notes are messages for the children of the Good Samaritan School in Carrefour, written in both French and English. Very excited, I asked how he found out about École le Bon Samaritain.
"Well, it seems that Richard met Danelie when she was invited to speak at a Haitian mass at a church near PS 211. Richard Feldman was there and was so impressed that he organized the "Bronx to Haiti Express" collection effort, thus, the goods he delivered today in time for Team 4's departure.
"Well, as you know, I'm from the BRONX and really, really love this awesome connection for many reasons. Mr. Feldman is the real deal, even collecting funds from a Hebrew Group in Riverside, NY. What a wonderful person. He completely believes in the work started by Jean-Elie Millien and hopes that in the future we can focus collection efforts more on school supplies. He would also like to see a pen pal program started.
"So, Richard Feldman, I have introduced you to The Rev. Puck Purnell from Old St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Bloomfield, CT. My husband, Ken Koprowski, another wonderful connection is also happy to connect the dots. Welcome aboard."
