Saturday, 1.16.10 - 2.15 p.m.

(update Saturday, 1.16.10 - 2.15 p.m.)

Just heard from Danelie Millien who had spoken with Mona. I called the cypercafé number she gave me but didn't get through. I'll try again. The right side of the School where the youngest children had classes is destroyed. There is other damage to the School so Mona and the others at the School are sleeping in the Isuzu on the Rue S. Jonathas. Repairs are needed to our water purification system. Mona has contacted an engineer to help assess the damage and direct the repair effort. Dave Demaris from Bristol and Bob Reuss from N. Bangor, NY are ready to go to Haiti as soon as we can get tickets. Both are skilled builder/repair guys. This is a BIG project. We'd love to have a doctor or nurse.

(update Saturday, 1.16.10 - 11.40 a.m.)

We learned last night from a US-AID document that we would be wiser collecting money for medical supplies than collecting the supplies themselves from various donors. The reasoning is that we, as an organization, can then purchase the supplies we most need. If you have supplies already, please bring them to OSA or to St. John's, Stamford and they will be used. Otherwise, please consider making a contribution toward the purchase of Medical Supplies in bulk. Speaking of which, a local CVS store has offered both to buy in bulk for us and to give us a deep discount.

(update Friday, 1.15.10 - 9.45 p.m.)

The Delta flight of our initial team (Jean-Elie & Luc) to Haiti has been canceled. They will now go on 1.23 instead of 1.18. Mona's flight back to the US has also been canceled and she will stay in Haiti for now.
