(Tuesday - 01.13.10) There is little or no food and limited amounts of water at the School. Mona has a plane ticket to the States for Sunday. Whether she can get to the airport to make this flight is unknown right now. If she stays, Jean-Elie insists on going back on Monday. In addition, there are two people working at École le Bon Samaritain who are from Les Cayes, Mona's home town in the south. If Mona leaves, they are without any support and with no way home (120 km). Most people feel very unsafe right now, worrying about another quake. I'll update this information in due time.
Posted earlier today by ENS was information that Episcopal Bishop Duracin survived. His wife, Mona Millien's sister, hurt her foot but she is OK. The Duracin's house, where Giovanni Milllien had been staying, was destroyed. Trinity Cathedral was destroyed along with St. Margaret Convent immediately behind it. The three sisters (Marie Margaret, Marjorie Raphael, and Marie Threse) are alive. It is also reported that St. Vincent School for the Handicapped is destroyed. No word on the children or staff.
The Roman Catholic Archbishop Joseph Serge Miot of Port-au-Prince died in the earthquake, according to the Associated Press. The Roman Catholic Cathedral was badly damaged.
The streets are littered with dead bodies and rubble. The situation is dire and getting worse.
OSA is the subject of an article on creedible.com: http://www.creedible.com/creed/Haiti/religious-community-rocked-by-quake-in-haiti.html
Hold the EBS children and all the people of Haiti in your hearts & prayers during these difficult times.
