What's needed, what's not ~ Lessons to learn

Mike Lally, Carolyn Lang's husband, got some very important feedback from Carolyn last night and we need to pay attention to this information.

Big Lesson: Don't send over-the-counter medicines like Aleve and Tylenol in the box packages. It takes up too much space and adds to weight. JetBlue would certainly appreciate shedding this extra weight, too. Moveover, the packaging contributes to the overwhelming waste and trash problem in Haiti. If you want to send shampoo or other liquid items, make sure the bottles are screw top. Flip-top bottles can open and soil other supplies. In addition, bigger is not better. Send smaller, personal (travel) sized items.

Along those same lines, if you plan to send diapers, consider sending cloth diapers so the soiled ones don't end up in a pile on the street. Cloth diapers will be cleaned and used again.

For our part, we will be more attentive to packing medical supplies in one bag, baby items in a separate bag, etc. This helps unpacking at the Clinic.
