Team 3 brings $1,600 worth of food & 89 bags of medical supplies

It's one of those moments when I have too many things to do and say. First and foremost is that Team 3 is departing the American Embassy and heading to Carrefour. It has been a very long 24 hours which have included some travel snafus. Special thanks to Gus Schegel and Carolyn Lang, Team 3 Leader, for keeping their heads and making things that were twisted straight. All of our people and gear (89 bags!), plus $1,600 worth of food is headed for the Clinic to be disbursed to the people of the Waney neighborhood of Carrefour in the coming days.

Second, I just received an email from Pascale Millien-Faustin with news that The United States Treasury Department has just announced U.S. government support for complete debt cancellation for Haiti who will work with our international partners to ensure that new assistance comes in the form of grants, not debt-incurring loans. This is an epic move and vital to the Haitian people as they recover from the devastation of this 7.0 earthquake and years of economic hardship. Please click to hear Haitian Ambassador Raymond Joseph thank ONE members.

The Press Release says, "And this weekend, the U.S. will take this message to G7 finance ministers’ summit, creating strong momentum to get a global deal and guarantee debt cancellation for Haiti ... It's exactly what more than 200,000 ONE members have been calling for. And this weekend, the U.S. will take this message to G7 finance ministers’ summit, creating strong momentum to get a global deal and guarantee debt cancellation for Haiti.

"This big win for our campaign comes just a few days after Haiti’s ambassador to the United States, Raymond Joseph, recorded a video message to thank ONE members.
"ONE will be there when U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and his counterparts in the G7—the very people who sit on the governing boards of the international lending institutions that hold Haiti’s $1 billion debt—meet in the far-north Canadian town of Iqaluit this weekend for a G7 finance ministers’ summit. Among Iqaluit’s 7,000 residents is ONE member Michèle Bertol, and she has graciously agreed to deliver our petition to the host of the summit, Canadian Finance Minister James Flaherty."
Third, I continue to get calls from people who want to help. Most recently from Nedgine Paul, a Haitian-American from Connecticut and a member of l'Eglise de l'Epiphanie in Stamford, who is in touch with a consortium of Magnet Schools interested in donating supplies. Thank you Nadgine.

  1. Not quite sure I understand this statement on the Haitian flag? Does that imply that the Haitian people had turned their back on God and are suffering His rath, as mentioned by Pat Robertson?
